The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman Guide: How to Make Your First Trip Feel Like Your Third

After three unforgettable stays, this Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman review is the guide I wish someone had handed me before our first visit. Instead of another brochure-style overview, I’m sharing the little things we discovered over multiple trips—from where I’d stay and what I’d book to the restaurants we’d return to and the moments that made us fall in love with Seven Mile Beach.

What You’ll Find in This Guide

This isn’t another Ritz-Carlton brochure.

You already know it’s beautiful. That’s easy to see in the photos. What I wanted to write was the guide I wish someone had handed me before our first stay—the little things you usually don’t figure out until your vacation is almost over.

Inside, I’ll share things like:

  • The complimentary treats that quietly appear throughout the day (and when to look for them).
  • Where I’d sit on Seven Mile Beach and why our strategy changed after each trip.
  • The restaurants we’d absolutely go back to and the meals I’m still thinking about.
  • The Afternoon Tea experience, including whether I think it’s worth the price.
  • The airport shortcut that saved us a tremendous amount of time traveling with kids.
  • The daily rhythm that made our vacations feel longer and more relaxing.
  • The tiny moments that never make the brochures, like ghost crabs, frozen cappuccinos, tarpon feedings, and the lizard the boys insisted on naming Lizzie.

My goal isn’t to convince you to book this trip. It’s to help you make the most of it if you do. After three stays, I want your first trip to feel like your third.

Before You Book

Before I tell you all my favorite spots, little tips, and things I wish someone had told me, I think it’s only fair to answer one question.

Who is this resort actually for?

I’ve stayed at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman three times now, and while I absolutely love it, I also know that not every vacation fits every traveler. The good news is that I think this resort does an amazing job appealing to a lot of different people. Whether you’re planning a honeymoon, bringing little kids, celebrating an anniversary, or traveling with grandparents, I watched all of those groups enjoying this resort in completely different ways.

Who I Think Will Love It

We kept saying throughout our trip that there really are “no case of the Mondays” here. The days feel longer in the best way. You wake up, grab breakfast, spend hours on Seven Mile Beach, maybe take an afternoon break, head back out for sunset, and somehow you’re looking at your watch thinking, How is it only four o’clock?

That doesn’t happen to us very often.

One thing I also love is that the resort never feels like it’s trying too hard. There are plenty of activities if you want them, but there’s never pressure to constantly be doing something. We saw couples reading books by the beach, families kayaking together, grandparents watching the kids at the splash pad, and even business groups somehow looked relaxed.

If I had to describe the vibe in one word, it’d be comfortable. Not because it’s casual. Because after about a day, you feel like you belong there.

Who Might Prefer Somewhere Else

This is probably the only part of the article where I’m going to tell you not to stay here.

If your ideal vacation is packed with nightlife, hopping from bar to bar, or constantly exploring different parts of the island, you may want to stay somewhere that puts you closer to that scene.

That’s not because Grand Cayman doesn’t have those things. It absolutely does. When you’re sitting on Seven Mile Beach looking at that water, it’s honestly hard to convince yourself to leave.

First Impressions

I always think the first hour of a vacation matters more than people realize. Have you ever arrived somewhere after traveling all day and somehow felt more stressed than when you left home? Standing in line. Waiting for your room. Wondering where your luggage is. It doesn’t exactly scream “vacation.” That wasn’t our experience here.

Before you even reach the front doors, you’re driving through beautiful palm trees, flowers, and perfectly maintained landscaping. Maybe it’s because I’m a real estate agent, but I notice those details immediately. You can tell people really care about this property.

When those big doors open, you’re hit with cool air conditioning, that signature Ritz scent, smiling faces, and a tropical welcome drink before you’ve even had a chance to look around. Vacation officially starts.

The Little Things I Noticed

These aren’t huge moments, but they’re the ones I still remember.

  • The lobby smelled exactly the way I remembered from our last trip.
  • The boys immediately got excited about their welcome drinks.
  • Staff started talking to the kids right away instead of only speaking to the adults.
  • We were handed little chocolate coconut truffles with edible gold flecks while we checked in, which was such a fun surprise after traveling.
  • Our room happened to be ready, so we were able to change and get right out to the beach.

One of My Favorite Moments

This made me smile. The gentleman helping us check in looked so familiar that I finally asked if he’d been working there for a few years. He laughed and said yes. It turns out he was the same person who had helped us on a previous trip. He remembered the Ritz Kids passport program, signed the boys’ books again, and shared another fun fact about Nepal, where he’s from. Those are the things that stick with me. Not because they’re flashy. Because they’re genuine.

Why I Think Check-In Matters

I know this probably sounds silly, but I think the way a resort handles your first hour says a lot. Even if your room isn’t ready, I care much more about whether the staff makes you feel welcome than whether everything goes perfectly. Offer me somewhere to change into my swimsuit. Hold my luggage while I grab lunch or head to the beach. Hand me a cold drink after traveling. Those little things immediately tell me, “Relax. We’ve got you.” That’s exactly how we felt here.

Seven Mile Beach: Everything I Wish I Knew Before Our First Stay

Let’s just get this out of the way.

Yes, the water really is that blue!

I know every photo online makes it look edited, oversaturated, or like someone cranked the vibrance slider all the way up. I honestly thought the same thing years ago. Even after coming here multiple times, I still find myself taking way too many pictures because the water changes throughout the day. One minute it’s bright turquoise, then it shifts to deep blues, then almost looks like a giant swimming pool. The water shifts from bright turquoise to deep blue depending on the sun, and it’s one of the few places I’ve visited where the photos still don’t quite capture what it looks like in person.

My Favorite Time of Day

People ask me this all the time, and I honestly can’t pick just one.

Early mornings are my favorite for slowing down. We’d grab coffee, take a walk before breakfast, and look for shells while the beach was still quiet. The water is incredibly calm, the sand looks untouched, and it’s just peaceful.

Then there’s sunset. If you only watch one sunset during your stay, don’t make it your last night. Give yourself a few chances because every evening is different. Some nights the sky lights up with oranges and pinks. Other nights it’s softer, but still beautiful. I found myself taking the same picture over and over because I kept thinking, Okay…this one is my favorite.

Where I’d Sit

If you’re wondering whether getting to the beach early is worth it, I’d say yes.

We’re not the type of family that saves six chairs for two people. We grab the chairs we know we’ll actually use, then head out for a quick beach walk while we’re waiting for the towel attendants to arrive.

If you have younger kids, I’d definitely recommend trying for the front row. It made it so much easier to keep an eye on the boys while they were building sandcastles, swimming, or snorkeling right in front of us. Once you move back a few rows, you’re looking over umbrellas and other chairs instead of straight at the water.

If you’re traveling as a couple, I don’t think it matters nearly as much. Every chair has a beautiful view.

Don’t Skip the Water

I know some people are pool people. I get it.

But if you’re staying on Seven Mile Beach, please don’t spend your entire vacation at the pool.

Bring a snorkel mask. Swim out to the floating rafts. Look down into the water.

Our boys spotted tropical fish almost every day. We even saw a baby stingray, and one afternoon we found the tiniest little sand crab. It was about the size of a ladybug and somehow became one of the highlights of the trip. Sometimes the best memories aren’t the big excursions. They’re the little surprises waiting right at the resort.

What I’d Pack

After a few trips, we’ve learned what actually gets used and what stays in the suitcase.

Here’s what I’d absolutely pack again:

  • Plenty of swimsuits and lightweight cover-ups.
  • Reef-safe sunscreen and aloe gel.
  • A wide-brim hat or baseball cap.
  • A small portable fan or neck fan if you don’t love the heat.
  • Snorkel masks, especially for kids who are already comfortable using their own.
  • Beach toys or a soft football or frisbee.
  • Electrolyte packets to mix into your water throughout the day.
  • A good beach read. (..or three if you can’t get enough of reading like me.)

One thing we brought that ended up being a hit was a soft foam frisbee. It skipped across the water, and the yellowtail fish kept jumping after it. I don’t know if they thought it was food or just wanted to join the game, but the boys thought it was hilarious.

My One Small Complaint

Honestly, I don’t have many. If I had to pick one, it’d be the bathroom location from the beach. It’s not a deal breaker by any means, but it’s something I wish I’d known on our first visit. If you’re sitting farther north on the beach, it’s a decent walk back when someone suddenly announces they have to go. Parents…you know exactly what I’m talking about. If easy bathroom access is important to you, I’d try to sit a little farther south, closer to the pathway near Saint June. It’s still not right next to the beach, but it cuts down on the walk.

The Little Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me

This might end up being my favorite part of this entire guide because these are the things you don’t usually find on a resort website.

They’re not huge. They’re not life-changing. They’re just those little moments where halfway through vacation you think,

“I wish I knew this on Day One.”

After three stays at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, these are the things I’d tell every friend before they packed their suitcase.

Get Up Early At Least Once

I know. You’re on vacation. Sleeping in sounds wonderful. But trust me on this one. One morning, grab a coffee and head down to Seven Mile Beach before breakfast. The beach is quiet, the water is unbelievably calm, and it feels like you have the entire place to yourself. We started making this part of our routine every trip. We’d walk the shoreline looking for shells while the boys searched for little treasures in the sand, then we’d head over to breakfast.

It became one of my favorite parts of the day.

Don’t Miss the Complimentary Beach Treats

This is exactly the kind of thing I wish someone had told me. Throughout the day, the staff quietly comes around with little surprises.

  • Early morning frozen cappuccino samples around 9:30 AM.
  • Another day it was fresh cut frozen pineapple.
  • We had watermelon water, lemon water, little cups of iced tea, frozen grapes, and one afternoon everyone at the beach was handed ice pops.

If you’re swimming or out kayaking, you could completely miss them. When spending the day at the beach, just keep an eye out because they’re such a fun little touch.

The Tarpon Feeding Is Worth Stopping For

Every afternoon around 5:30, head over near Andiamo.

Seriously. Don’t skip it.

The first time I saw these fish I thought they were fake. They’re huge.

The staff does such a great job making it fun for the kids, getting the fish to jump and joking around while everyone watches from the floating dock. It’s become one of those little traditions that we look forward to every time we visit. It’s free, takes maybe fifteen minutes, and somehow always ends with everyone smiling.

Stretch Your Day Instead of Rushing It

One thing we started doing differently was changing the rhythm of our day. Instead of beach, lunch, nap, dinner…we started slowing everything down.

Our days usually looked something like this:

  • Morning beach walk and coffee.
  • Breakfast at Seven.
  • Beach until lunch.
  • Afternoon break in the room.
  • Back down to the beach around 4:00.
  • Sunset.
  • Dinner afterward.

That little change made our vacation feel so much longer. The beach has a completely different feel later in the afternoon. The sun isn’t quite as intense, people start heading in, and it’s one of my favorite times to swim.

Afternoon Tea Is Bigger Than You Think

If you’re planning to do Afternoon Tea, I’d actually treat it as lunch.

We made the mistake of having lunch beforehand because we didn’t realize just how much food we’d be getting. Between the sandwiches, scones, desserts, and tea, it’s more than enough.

If I were planning the trip again, I’d have a very light breakfast, enjoy tea, then make a later dinner reservation and spend the evening watching the sunset.

Bring Your Own Snorkel Masks

The resort does offer complimentary snorkel gear, which is a really nice perk. If you’re planning a quick snorkel session right from Seven Mile Beach, though, I’d still pack your own mask if you have room.

Here’s why.

The complimentary gear is located at the watersports hut, so you’ll need to walk down, pick it up, and return it when you’re finished. That’s not a huge deal, but after you’ve settled into your beach chair, the last thing you want to do is trek back across the hot sand because you suddenly spotted a school of fish swimming by.

Having your own mask means you can jump in whenever you feel like it. We loved being able to grab ours, walk into the water, and explore for ten or fifteen minutes without thinking twice.

If you’re planning to venture farther offshore or spend more time snorkeling, I’d absolutely rent the full setup from the resort. The fins, life vest, and snorkel gear make a big difference for longer adventures, especially if you’re heading farther out with kids or planning to spend a while in the water.

Order Pizza To-Go

This became one of our favorite easy lunches. A lot of families order pizza from Andiamo, pick it up, and bring it over near the splash pad. We even saw people taking whole pizzas back to their rooms after a long beach day. Sometimes simple is exactly what everyone wants after hours in the sun.

The Resort Rewards Curiosity

One thing I noticed every single trip is that the more curious you are, the more you’ll discover.

  • Ask when the complimentary treats come around.
  • Ask about the daily activities.
  • Ask what movies are playing that night.
  • Ask what’s happening that evening.

The staff genuinely wants guests to enjoy everything the resort has to offer, and every time we asked a question, we ended up discovering something we probably would’ve missed otherwise.

Where We Stayed (And Why I’d Choose Ocean Tower Again)

One thing I don’t see talked about enough is which tower to choose. We’ve actually stayed in both areas of The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, so I finally have something to compare.

This trip we stayed in the Ocean Tower, and after experiencing both, I can honestly say that if your vacation looks anything like ours, I’d absolutely choose it again.

Now, if you’re someone who spends every morning at the spa or never misses a workout, you may feel differently and choose to stay on the other side of the resort. There’s not a better side, but based on vacation style preference it’s an important consideration to make.

Why Ocean Tower Worked So Well For Us

We’re beach people.

Our days usually looked something like this:

  • Morning walk on Seven Mile Beach.
  • Breakfast at Seven.
  • Back to the beach.
  • Up to the room for an afternoon break.
  • Back downstairs for another swim before sunset.
  • Dinner.

Because we were constantly going between our room and the beach, being in Ocean Tower made everything feel closer and easier.

It doesn’t sound like much until you’re making that walk several times a day carrying beach bags, towels, snorkel masks, water bottles, and whatever treasures your kids collected that morning. Sometimes convenience really does matter.

The Walk Between The Towers

We’ve also stayed in the other tower, which is connected by the beautiful gallery hallway. If you’ve never seen it, it’s actually a really pretty walk. The artwork changes throughout the hallway and it’s much more than just a bridge connecting two buildings.

It’s a beautiful walk—but it’s still a walk. When you’re doing it once or twice, it’s no big deal. When you’re doing it four or five times a day with kids who suddenly forgot goggles, need another bathroom trip, or want to grab a sweatshirt before dinner, those extra minutes start adding up. For our family, Ocean Tower simply fit the way we vacation.

The Balcony View

One thing that made this stay especially memorable was that we were lucky enough to be on the top floor of Ocean Tower. Every morning I’d slide open the balcony door with a cup of coffee and just stand there for a few minutes before everyone else was awake.

We stayed on the eighth floor, also known as the Penthouse Level, and I honestly wasn’t prepared for the view. From our balcony we could see the different shades of turquoise water, coral patches, boats drifting by, and tiny snorkelers below. It was one of those views that made me stop every single time I walked into the room.

My Honest Advice

If your plan is to spend most of your vacation enjoying Seven Mile Beach, I personally think paying a little extra for Ocean Tower is worth considering. Not because the rooms themselves are dramatically different. Because your vacation becomes easier. Less walking. Less backtracking. More time sitting by the water. For us, that’s what vacation is all about. Plus, THAT VIEW!

One thing I always tell people is to think about how you vacation, not just what room costs less.

If your mornings start at the beach and your afternoons end watching the sunset from the sand, being closer to the beach may be worth every extra dollar. If your dream vacation is spa treatments, the gym, golf, or tennis every day, another part of the resort might make more sense. There isn’t really a wrong choice. It’s just about choosing the one that fits the way you like to travel.

The Food That Kept Us Coming Back

I’ll be honest…Food can make or break a vacation for me.

I’m not looking for the fanciest meal or the biggest portions. I want food that feels like part of the trip. The kind of meal you still think about months later because it reminds you exactly where you were when you ate it. That happened more than once at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman.

Some of my favorite memories weren’t tied to excursions or activities at all. They happened over breakfast before the beach, afternoon tea with my family, or dinner while watching the sun disappear over Seven Mile Beach.

Breakfast at Seven Became Part of Our Routine

I know buffet breakfasts can sometimes feel repetitive after a few days, but that never happened here because the chefs changed things constantly. Every morning there was something new to discover.

One day it was coconut stuffed French toast. Another day it was Nutella pancakes. Then Scottish potatoes, jerk-seasoned breakfast potatoes, little focaccia breakfast sandwiches, fresh pastries, tropical smoothies, and more kinds of fruit than I could count.

Instead of feeling like we were eating the same breakfast every day, it almost became part of the adventure.

My Favorite Breakfast Finds

I definitely had my favorites.

If I ever recreate one recipe from this trip, it’ll be the coconut French toast. It had this creamy coconut filling that somehow managed to taste rich without being overly sweet.

I also looked forward to wandering through the pastry section every morning. The cheese scones were delicious, but the piña colada Danish completely surprised me. There were fresh croissants, muffins, pastries, and just enough variety that I always convinced myself I should try “just one more thing.”

The smoothie of the day also became a little tradition. We didn’t realize until later in the trip that if you’re enjoying the buffet, you can ask for it to go. The same goes for coffee and bottled water. We’d grab our drinks on the way to the beach, and it made the morning feel even more relaxed.

If you’re doing the breakfast buffet, don’t overload your first plate. Walk the whole buffet first, see what’s new that morning, then go back. I learned that lesson after filling up on pastries before I even reached the fresh fruit. No need to skip the smoothie of the day, ask for it to-go before you head to the pool or beach!

One Meal I’ll Never Forget

If I had to choose one meal from the entire trip, it wasn’t actually breakfast. It was our private beach dinner. This wasn’t something we normally do on vacation, but we decided to celebrate and I’m so glad we did.

The table was set right in the sand with tiki torches, lanterns, fresh flowers, and the sound of the waves just a few feet away. Before the first course even arrived, we kicked off our shoes and walked through the sand while the sun finished setting.

Sometimes it’s not just the food you remember. It’s everything around it.

The bread service alone deserves its own paragraph. The coconut and mango rolls with the spicy butter were incredible. I went into dinner telling myself I wasn’t going to fill up on bread…that lasted about thirty seconds.

Don’t Overlook The Cupboard

One of my favorite discoveries wasn’t one of the signature restaurants at all.

It was The Cupboard. This little market became our afternoon coffee stop more than once, and it’s also where I found one of my favorite desserts from the entire trip: the tropical s’mores bar. I don’t know if it changes seasonally, but if you see it…buy one. Think of it as Ritz-Carlton’s version of s’more style mounds candy bar.

The market has other items like drinks, snacks, toiletries, medicine, and souvenirs/gifts.

We Didn’t Eat Every Meal at the Resort

While we loved the restaurants at the Ritz-Carlton, we also made time to explore a few places nearby.

Tillie’s gave us one of our favorite sunset dinners.

Ave at the Kimpton was another great meal.

I’ve also heard wonderful things about Luca’s breakfast, although we never made it there because we kept going back to Seven. No matter where you go in Grand Cayman, the food never seems to disappoint!

One of the things I appreciated most wasn’t just how good the food was. It was how accommodating everyone was. As a vegetarian, I never felt like I was settling for the only meat-free option on the menu. During Afternoon Tea they even prepared a separate selection just for me, and they handled food allergies for another member of our family with the same level of care. Those little details make a difference, especially when you’re traveling with a family.

Don’t Skip Afternoon Tea

I’ll admit it. Before we booked it, I wasn’t sure if Afternoon Tea would be worth taking time away from the beach. I’m so glad we did. It ended up being one of the most relaxing afternoons of our trip and gave us a chance to slow down, cool off, and enjoy something completely different. Even my boys, who insisted beforehand that they “don’t like tea,” left asking if we could do it again.

The experience felt elegant without feeling stuffy. We were served beautiful three-tiered trays filled with warm scones, savory sandwiches, delicate pastries, and desserts that were almost too pretty to eat. I loved that the resort also created completely separate selections for me as a vegetarian and for another member of our family with a food allergy. We never felt like an afterthought.

One tip I’d definitely share is to come hungry. Afternoon Tea is much more filling than it looks, so I’d either make it your lunch for the day or plan on having a later dinner after you’ve had time to enjoy the sunset.

Reserve Afternoon Tea before your trip, especially if you’re visiting on a weekend. It fills up quickly, and the team likes to know about dietary restrictions ahead of time so they can customize your experience.

Staying at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman With Kids

We can talk about the beach, the rooms, and the food all day long, but if you’re traveling as a family, you’re probably wondering one thing.

Will my kids actually have fun here?

Before this trip, I asked our boys what they remembered most about Grand Cayman. I expected them to say Seven Mile Beach or the splash pad. Instead, they started talking about snorkeling, the giant tarpon fish, and even Afternoon Tea, which they insisted beforehand they weren’t going to like. Kids are funny that way. Sometimes the things you spend weeks planning become an afterthought, and the unexpected moments become the memories they talk about for months. That’s exactly what happened here.

Snorkeling Became an Everyday Adventure

If your kids are comfortable in the water, don’t underestimate how much they’ll love snorkeling right from Seven Mile Beach. Every day felt like a new treasure hunt.

One morning we’d spot schools of tropical fish. Another day the boys found a baby stingray gliding through the water. Even swimming out to the floating rafts became part of our daily routine because every time they put their faces in the water, they discovered something different.

The resort offers complimentary snorkel gear, which is a wonderful perk. That said, I’d still recommend bringing your own snorkel mask if you already have one. Having it with us meant we could jump into the water whenever we wanted instead of walking back to the watersports hut to borrow equipment. If you’re planning to snorkel farther offshore or spend more time exploring, that’s when I’d rent the fins and life vests from the resort.

The Splash Pad Was Still a Favorite

Even though our boys were 8 and 9 during this trip, they still asked to stop at the splash pad almost every afternoon. I think they loved the change of pace.

After spending the morning at the beach, it became our little afternoon tradition before heading back to the room to shower, rest, and get ready for dinner.

One thing I really appreciated was that it never felt overly crowded. Parents could relax in the shade with lunch or a tropical drink while the kids ran through the splash area. It felt calm, not chaotic, which honestly matched the entire feel of the resort.

They Never Seemed Bored

This might sound simple, but it really stood out to me. Our boys never once said they were bored.

They spent hours swimming, looking for shells, snorkeling, building in the sand, watching fish, reading books under the umbrella, skipping their yellow football across the water, and discovering little creatures along the beach.

Every day seemed to bring something different. One afternoon we even found a tiny sand crab that couldn’t have been much bigger than a ladybug. We also spotted ghost crabs, colorful lizards, tropical fish, and even a beautiful rooster wandering the property. Those little discoveries became just as exciting as the planned activities.

Is This Resort Good for Toddlers, Kids, and Teens?

One thing I loved about The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman was seeing families at every stage enjoying the resort in completely different ways.

  • Toddlers were happily splashing in the water park while grandparents watched from nearby chairs.
  • School-aged kids were kayaking, snorkeling, hunting for shells, and swimming out to the floating rafts.
  • Teenagers were paddleboarding, relaxing on the beach, playing games, and taking advantage of the watersports.

It never felt like kids were simply “allowed” here. It felt like they truly belonged. As a parent, that’s something I noticed right away.

How I’d Plan My Next Stay at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman

One of the biggest reasons I wanted to write this review wasn’t just to tell you what we loved. It was to help your very first trip feel like you’ve already been here a few times.

Every vacation has those moments where, on your second-to-last day, you suddenly discover something and think, “I wish I had known that on Day One.”

After several stays at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, we’ve definitely had a few of those moments. Hopefully these tips help you make the most of your trip from the very beginning.

Do This on Day One

If your schedule allows, I’d plan one special experience during the first couple of days instead of saving everything for the end.

For us, Afternoon Tea worked perfectly because it gave us a break from the Cayman sun while easing into vacation mode. If you’re planning a spa treatment, I’d do that earlier in the trip too. After several full days in the sun, your skin and body might not appreciate a facial or massage quite as much. The same goes for excursions. Whether you’re booking through the resort or another company, I like planning them earlier in the vacation. If weather changes or someone isn’t feeling well, you’ll have flexibility to reschedule instead of missing out completely.

Don’t Wait Until the End of Your Trip

One thing we learned over multiple visits is that the best days weren’t necessarily the busiest ones. Instead of rushing from one activity to the next, we found a rhythm that made every day feel longer.

  • Wake up a little earlier.
  • Take a walk on Seven Mile Beach before breakfast.
  • Grab coffee.
  • Enjoy breakfast at Seven.
  • Spend the morning on the beach.
  • Take a break during the hottest part of the afternoon.
  • Head back down around four o’clock for another swim before sunset.
  • Finish the evening with dinner.

It sounds simple, but stretching the day instead of packing it full made our vacation feel so much more relaxing. Don’t wait until your last day to discover your own rhythm.

Reserve These Before You Leave Home

There are a few things I’d book before your vacation even begins.

  • Afternoon Tea, especially if you’re visiting on a weekend.
  • Airport transportation.
  • Spa appointments.
  • Cabana dinners or other special dining experiences.
  • Popular excursions like Sting Ray City.
  • A few dinner reservations, especially if you’re traveling during busy seasons.

Having those plans in place made the trip feel effortless, while still leaving plenty of room for spontaneous afternoons.

Pack Smart

After several trips, we’ve learned what actually gets used and what stays in the suitcase.

Some of our must-pack items include:

  • Reef-safe sunscreen and aloe.
  • A lightweight cover-up or sarong.
  • Hats and sunglasses.
  • Electrolyte packets.
  • A portable fan.
  • Your own snorkel mask.
  • Beach toys for the kids.
  • A good book.

I’ve put together my complete packing list, including everything we packed, loved, and would absolutely bring again.

If I Only Had Four Days

If I only had four days at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, I wouldn’t try to cram every excursion into one vacation.

I’d spend one day exploring the island, whether that’s Camana Bay, Starfish Point, or another part of Grand Cayman, then I’d spend the rest of my time doing exactly what drew me here in the first place.

  • Morning walks.
  • Long breakfasts.
  • Swimming in Seven Mile Beach.
  • Snorkeling whenever I felt like it.
  • Watching the sunset every evening.
  • A great dinner.

Then waking up the next morning and doing it all over again.

Sometimes the best vacations aren’t the ones where you do the most. They’re the ones where you finally slow down enough to enjoy where you are.

Is The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman Worth It?

This is probably the easiest question for me to answer. Yes.

But maybe not for the reasons you think.

Luxury resorts usually impress you with beautiful rooms, incredible food, or a gorgeous beach. The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman certainly has all of those things, but that’s not why we keep coming back. We come back because of how it makes us feel.

I’ve stayed at beautiful resorts before, but very few have given me that feeling where I’m already missing the trip before it’s even over. I remember sitting on our balcony just a couple of days into vacation thinking, “I’m already going to miss this place.” That doesn’t happen to me often. For us, that’s what makes this resort special.

If You’re Traveling as a Family

I can’t imagine many places that balance luxury and family quite as well as this.

Our boys never felt like they were simply tagging along on an adults’ vacation. They had plenty to keep them excited, from snorkeling and kayaking to the splash pad, giant tarpon feeding, and simply spending hours exploring Seven Mile Beach.

At the same time, my husband and I never felt like we were sacrificing a relaxing vacation because we brought the kids. Somehow the resort manages to make both things true at once. As a parent, that’s a rare combination.

If You’re Traveling as a Couple

If it were just the two of us, I think we’d love it just as much.

I’d spend longer mornings with coffee overlooking the water. I’d probably book another beach dinner, make time for the spa, linger over Afternoon Tea, and enjoy a few more slow walks along Seven Mile Beach before dinner. It’s one of those places where doing absolutely nothing somehow becomes the best part of the vacation.

If You’re Celebrating Something Special

Whether it’s a honeymoon, anniversary, birthday, retirement, or simply a trip you’ve been dreaming about for years, this feels like the kind of place that naturally makes an occasion feel even more memorable.

One evening my husband surprised me with a private dinner on the beach. The table was set right in the sand with lanterns, fresh flowers, tiki torches, and the sound of the waves a few feet away. It wasn’t just dinner. It became one of those memories we’ll probably still be talking about years from now. Those are the moments that stay with you.

Who Might Prefer Somewhere Else?

I’ll always be honest in my reviews, and I think that’s important here too. If you’re someone who wants constant nightlife, casinos, or to be out exploring from sunrise until midnight every day, there may be other destinations that fit your travel style a little better. That’s not because Grand Cayman lacks things to do.

It’s because this resort almost encourages you to slow down. To stay one more hour at the beach. To order another coffee. To watch one more sunset. To take one more walk before dinner. If that sounds like your idea of a perfect vacation, I honestly think you’ll fall in love with this place. We met countless guests who have returned year after year, some since the resort first opened. I don’t think there’s a better endorsement than that.

Would We Come Back Again?

Without hesitation.

In fact, before we’d even packed our suitcases to come home, we were already talking about coming back. Not because we felt like we’d missed something. Because there are very few places that leave us feeling this relaxed. That’s really the best compliment I can give.

There’s Even More to Explore

One thing I don’t want to leave out is that we still haven’t experienced everything The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman has to offer.

If you’re the type of traveler who likes to stay busy, you’ll find plenty to fill your days beyond the beach. The resort offers everything from golf, tennis, and a beautiful spa to complimentary water sports like kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, and snorkeling.

Families should also take a look at the Ambassadors of the Environment by Jean-Michel Cousteau® program before arriving. The resort offers hands-on nature experiences, marine education, family adventures, and age-specific activities designed to help kids explore Grand Cayman’s incredible wildlife and ecosystem in a fun, interactive way.

If you’re hoping for a little adults-only time, there are also supervised drop-off programs available for children, giving parents the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing spa treatment, a long lunch, a quiet afternoon by the beach, or even a romantic dinner together.

One thing I appreciated is that many of the experiences aren’t just for children. There are family activities designed to bring everyone together, making it easy to create memories beyond the beach without ever leaving the resort.

It’s honestly one more reason why I never felt like we had to rush off property every day. There was always something else waiting to be discovered.

Getting to The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman (Airport & Transportation Tips)

Getting to Grand Cayman is actually pretty easy. Getting through the airport can be a different story.

We’ve visited Grand Cayman several times now, and one of the biggest lessons we’ve learned has nothing to do with the resort. It’s knowing what to expect before you even leave the airport. A little planning here can save you a lot of frustration and help your vacation start on the right foot.

Always keep a pen in your carry-on. You’ll thank yourself later. On one of our earlier trips we realized how many people were scrambling to borrow pens while filling out paperwork. Now I always throw a couple into my backpack before every international trip. It’s one of those tiny travel habits that saves unnecessary stress.

Arriving in Grand Cayman

One of my favorite parts about arriving is that you don’t walk through one of those enclosed airport bridges like you do at most airports. Instead, you step outside. The warm Caribbean air hits you almost immediately, and for the first time, it really feels like you’ve arrived somewhere tropical. After that, you’ll head inside for immigration. Depending on when you land, this can move quickly…or it can take a while. We’ve experienced both. Read on if you prefer to fast-track your arrival and departure times a bit.

Is the Grand Cayman Airport Meet & Greet Worth It?

After waiting in some long airport lines on previous trips, we decided to try the Cayman Islands Airport Meet & Greet service for both our arrival and departure. For our family, it was absolutely worth it.

A friendly airport representative met us as soon as we stepped off the plane and guided us through the arrival process, helping us fast-track immigration before escorting us to baggage claim. While they aren’t permitted to handle arriving luggage, they can provide a luggage cart if one is available and then escort you to your transportation once you’ve cleared customs.

The departure service was just as helpful. We were met curbside at the airport, assisted with our luggage, guided through check-in, and fast-tracked through security before being escorted to our gate. If you’ve ever seen the security lines at Owen Roberts International Airport during a busy weekend, you know how valuable that can be.

At the time of our visit, the service was CI$50 (about US$61) per person, each way, with children three and under included at no charge. Prices can change, so I’d recommend checking the current rates before your trip.

Was it necessary? No. Would we book it again? Without hesitation.

For families, first-time visitors, travelers on tight schedules, or anyone who simply wants to start and end their vacation with less stress, I think it’s a worthwhile splurge.

If you’re flying home on a Saturday or Sunday, especially between late morning and early afternoon, I would seriously consider booking the departure Meet & Greet service. Those are some of the busiest travel times in Grand Cayman, and skipping a long security line means more time enjoying your vacation and less time standing in one

Transportation to the Resort

We arranged our airport transportation through The Ritz-Carlton before we left home, and I’m really glad we did. Knowing someone would already be waiting for us removed one more thing to think about after a travel day. Our driver met us outside with a sign, loaded our luggage, and within minutes we were on our way to Seven Mile Beach.

The drive is only about fifteen minutes, so before you know it, you’re pulling into those beautiful palm-lined entrance gates and your vacation officially begins.

Leaving Grand Cayman

If there’s one part of the trip that isn’t quite as relaxing, it’s departure day. Unlike some Caribbean destinations, Grand Cayman doesn’t have U.S. Customs pre-clearance, so you’ll still go through customs once you arrive back in the United States. The airport itself can also get busy, especially when several flights are leaving around the same time. One thing we always do now is eat a good breakfast or early lunch before heading to the airport. The food options inside the terminal are limited, seating fills up quickly, and once multiple flights are boarding, it can feel crowded.

This trip we even packed a couple of bananas from breakfast along with snacks in our backpacks, and I was so happy we did. It sounds simple, but little things like that make travel days much easier, especially with kids.

One thing we’ve learned after several trips is that the airport is really the only part of this vacation that ever feels hectic. Everything else slows you down in the best possible way. So plan ahead, pack a few snacks, give yourself plenty of time, and once you walk through those doors at The Ritz-Carlton, let yourself settle into island time.

Little Touches That Made a Big Difference

Luxury isn’t always about the biggest things. Sometimes it’s the thoughtful little details that make your vacation feel effortless. These are the kinds of things I either didn’t know before arriving or came to appreciate more each day. None of them are reasons to book the resort on their own, but together they helped make our stay feel even more special.

Complimentary Sunscreen & After-Sun Gel

One thoughtful touch we really appreciated was the complimentary sunscreen and after-sun gel stations located throughout both the beach and pool areas.

Of course, I still recommend packing your favorite reef-safe sunscreen, but it’s so nice to know you can reapply throughout the day without having to run back to your room. After spending hours in the Cayman sun, the cooling after-sun gel was a welcome bonus. It’s a small detail, but one we found ourselves using more than once.

Coffee, Smoothies & Bottled Water To Go

It took us a couple of mornings to realize this, so hopefully I can save you the trouble. If you’re enjoying breakfast at Seven, you can ask for your coffee, smoothie of the day, or water to go before heading down to the beach. We started grabbing our drinks on the way out each morning, and it quickly became part of our routine.

The Watersports Hut Is Worth Visiting

Don’t overlook the watersports hut. The resort offers complimentary kayaks, paddleboards, sailboats, and snorkel gear, making it easy to spend a morning trying something new without leaving the property.

One tip I’d share is to bring your own snorkel mask if you already have one. We loved having ours because we could jump into the water whenever we spotted fish without making another trip to borrow equipment.

Check the Weekly Activities Schedule

One thing I wish we’d spent a little more time looking at was the weekly activities calendar. Between fitness classes, family activities, seasonal events, and special experiences, there’s almost always something happening around the resort. I’d recommend checking the schedule when you arrive so you can plan around anything that catches your eye instead of finding out about it after it’s already happened.

The Ambassadors of the Environment Program

If you’re traveling with kids, don’t skip the Ambassadors of the Environment by Jean-Michel Cousteau® program when you’re planning your trip.

The resort offers hands-on nature experiences, marine adventures, and educational activities designed to help children explore Grand Cayman’s incredible wildlife and ecosystem. There are also family experiences if you’d rather participate together. We didn’t have time to experience the program on this visit, but after learning more about it during our stay, it’s already on our list for next time.

Parents Can Enjoy Some Time Too

The resort also offers supervised drop-off activities for children, giving parents the opportunity to enjoy a spa treatment, a quiet lunch, a round of golf, or simply relax by the beach for a couple of hours. I love that the resort makes it easy to enjoy time together as a family while also giving everyone a chance to recharge in their own way.

Slow Down and Look Around

One thing I loved most about this trip had nothing to do with a reservation or an itinerary.

Take a walk around the grounds. Notice the flowers. Watch for the colorful lizards sunning themselves on the rocks, the little ghost crabs racing across the sand, or even the beautiful rooster wandering through the property.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman

Everything you need to know before booking your next trip.

Is The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman worth it?

For our family, absolutely. Between the beautiful setting on Seven Mile Beach, exceptional service, outstanding dining, and thoughtful amenities, it felt like one of those rare vacations where we truly relaxed. Before we even packed our suitcases, we were already talking about coming back.

Is Seven Mile Beach really as beautiful as everyone says?

Yes…and somehow even prettier in person. The water changes shades throughout the day, the sand is incredibly soft, and the beach is perfect for swimming, relaxing, or simply taking a morning walk with a cup of coffee.

Which tower should I book at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman?

After staying in different areas of the resort, Ocean Tower is my personal favorite. Since we spend so much time going back and forth between our room and the beach, the location was perfect for the way our family vacations.

Is The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman good for families?

Absolutely. Our boys loved snorkeling, kayaking, the splash pad, the daily tarpon feeding, and simply exploring Seven Mile Beach. At the same time, the resort still felt peaceful enough for couples and adults looking to relax.

Is the breakfast buffet at Seven worth it?

Yes. It quickly became one of our favorite parts of every morning. The menu changes daily, the quality was excellent, and we loved grabbing coffee or smoothies to go before heading down to the beach.

Is Afternoon Tea worth booking?

We thought so. It ended up being one of the biggest surprises of our trip, even for our boys who insisted they didn’t like tea beforehand. I’ll be sharing a complete Afternoon Tea review with photos and tips in a separate guide.

Do I need to rent a car in Grand Cayman?

Not necessarily. If you plan to spend most of your vacation at the resort and take just a couple of excursions, airport transportation and taxis work perfectly well. If you’d like to explore more of the island on your own, renting a car offers additional flexibility.

Is the airport Meet & Greet service worth it?

For our family, yes. We used the service for both arrival and departure, and it made the airport experience much less stressful. It’s especially helpful if you’re traveling with kids, arriving during a busy travel period, or simply want to spend less time waiting in lines. Shout-out to Rita!

What should I pack for The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman?

Don’t forget reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, comfortable sandals, and a reusable water bottle. I’d also recommend bringing your own snorkel mask if you have one. I’ll be sharing my complete Grand Cayman packing list, including all of our favorite travel essentials, in a separate post.

What’s one thing you wish you knew before your first visit?

Don’t save everything for the end of your trip. Watch the sunset on your first night, go snorkeling on your first beach day, stop for the daily tarpon feeding, and settle into the slower pace as soon as you arrive. Some of our favorite memories happened because we stopped saying, “We’ll do that later.”

Would you stay at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman again?

Without hesitation. One thing that really stayed with me was how many guests told us they’d been returning every year, some since The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman first opened its doors. That’s a pretty incredible testament to a place. By the end of our stay, we completely understood why.
